  • For the first time in my decade of volunteering with RFKC, I got to volunteer alongside former campers that I worked with. Jada and her sister Diamond had so many positive memories to share from their time at camp and it was incredibly to watch them pay that forward to the next generation of foster kids.
  • Jalen and his two brothers (James and Jaquan) came back to camp for the third time – each of the siblings lives in a different foster home, making camp one of the few places where they get to hang out for a whole week. It is so incredible watching them bond and have fun each year.
  • Kenny had been to camp 3 times previously and each year he mostly kept to himself. This year, Kenny’s personality took over camp and it was so much fun to see him come out of his shell and, at times, be the life of camp. He’s also adamant that he’ll be coming back to volunteer when he’s 16 and I really hope that happens.
  • Josh had also been to camp 3 times and in the past few years was adopted by someone associated with our camp. He has always been gifted athletically and, this year, he was the camp coach. Instead of just dominating each sport, he took time to teach other kids and elevate those around him. I heard that he’s playing wide receiver for his local Pop Warner football team and, based on what I saw at camp, he’s going to make waves in Illinois high school football.
  • Audry was a 10-year-old first time camp attendee and, for the first two days, she was very quiet and mostly hung out by herself. But as she made some friends, she began to open up and it culminated in her having enough courage to play the piano at the talent show on Thursday... It was her first time playing in front of people and she ABSOLUTELY CRUSHED IT!
